Clients – Wives and Girlfriends

The large salon that I worked in did not take appointments. You could request a stylist, and you would be told approximately how long the wait would be. Therefore the stylists had no idea who would be in on any particular day. We normally ran 70 – 150 customers a day.

I was keeping watch over the flock one day when one of my stylists approached me with something similar to “I am so glad that’s over!” Of course, my response was “What?” As Executive Manager, part of my job was to make sure that clients and stylists alike were happy. I always paid very close attention to the “floor” as it was separated from the reception area by a large wall, but in this case, I was working the late shift and had come in after the clients, and I had no idea of their history.

She proceeded to tell me. Apparently, the stylist had a client who was married and wanted a divorce, but due to property settlements felt that it was better to stay married. Her husband, (no idea of his age), had a 16 year old girlfriend who was bold enough to pull up in the driveway and honk for him to come out. Guess who showed up in the hair salon at close to the same time? Guess who both requested to do their hair? She handled it very well as there was no fighting and no bloodshed, but personally, I was glad I didn’t know until they were both gone. I told the stylist to take a long lunch. She deserved it!
